ISSUE #004: Marquis

ISSUE #004 – Marquis: Human connection appears to be more prevalent than ever today. All it takes is a healthy Wi-Fi connection and a screen to instantaneously come face-to-face with a loved one who resides on the other side of the world. Human connection has reached a global scale, but as the breadth of our interaction increases the proximity of what we care about diminishes...

ISSUE #003: KEITH CHEEK

ISSUE #003 – Keith Cheek: The enigma of music has always been a fascinating conundrum to explore. A seemingly ordinary person like yourself walks into a music venue without anybody raising an eye to you. You head over to the bar to order an adult-beverage, but the bartender might not notice you for a while. After finally receiving your drink you walk over to the section of the venue that is playing live music – that is why you're here after all. There is a local band opening up the night in front of a mostly empty crowd littered with photographers, friends of the various bands, and a few good sports who came to hear some good music; they aren't paying you any mind. These minute details all comprise the makings of a good night, unhindered by the stress of an unpleasant forty-hour work-week that pays the bills (and funds these nights of decompression)...

ISSUE #001: DAVID BARBER

ISSUE #001 – David Barber: It's a calm Saturday afternoon in the Pacific Northwest. Commuters drone down sullen streets still wet from a morning rain-shower. I walk gingerly across a busy intersection to avoid soaking my Nikes in the puddle-ridden potholes. Soon I'll arrive to meet David Barber, an independent hip-hop artist and jazz musician, to talk about his new music. He's fresh off the release of his new single titled Meditation that dropped on November 22, 2019. The song features Barber on vocals, but is comprised of Charlie Brown III, Cary Miga, Chang Park, Cory Limuaco, and Jeff Chilton as well, on various instruments. After a short walk and a few knocks on the door, I am greeted by David and invited in to detail his new song over a cup of coffee – or as David and I like to call it, a cup of Joe...
